Product and materials development consultancy
We provide technical problem solving services to companies in areas relating to product and materials development. This includes structural mechanics and dynamics services that employ a range of analysis and measurement capabilities such as mechanical testing of materials and structures; vibration, fatigue, water impact and shock testing; finite element analysis; and acoustics.

Product development and evaluation
- We developed an assessment regime for vehicle licence labels, vehicle registration plates and security documents, and evaluated their performance.
Fatigue testing:
- Cyclic bend testing of 18-metre long composite wind turbine blades for certification purposes. Read the news story.

- Analysis of toxic volatiles from rubber components
- Measurement of the physical properties of council rubbish bag materials and wheelie bins for quality control and performance requirements.
- Environmental stress and cracking resistance tests to ensure materials used in plastic shower linings were chemically resistant to common household cleaning agents.
Stress analysis:
- Simulation of loadings and creep properties of plastic heel and breast blocks to help a customer launch a replacement for concrete power pole support blocks.
- Structural analysis of Naval ship superstructure and landing craft components to determine safety factors and allowable working loads.
- Failure analysis and advice on remedial action to mitigate pipe seal joint failures
- Shock-testing of equipment and systems including components for the military and transport sectors
