Nanotechnology and microfluidic services

We offer the following services, expertise and facilities relating to our capabilities in nanotechnology, microfluidics and quantum dots:

  • Carbon nanotube manipulation, modification and characterisation (infrared fluorescence)
  • Electrical and magnetic manipulation of cells and other bioparticles
  • Electrode expertise (including pH measurement)
  • Measurement of electrical impedance: 10 Hz - 40 MHz and 10MHz - 1.3 GHz.
  • Mechanical micro and nano manipulation, including 100 µm travel piezo-actuators
  • Microfluidics: chip design, construction and electro-osmotic flow measurement
  • Microreactor technology - heterogeneous catalysis: preparation, characterisation and testing
  • Nanofluidics: electrical measurements on fluid filled nanopores, including nanoparticle characterisation
  • Optical (including fluorescence) microscopy
  • Polymer microchip fabrication: soft lithography: photoplate manufacture and development, mould production, spin coating, contact bonding
  • Quantum-dot synthesis and characterisation
  • Resistance-based polymer sensors
  • Surface characterisation: contact angles, spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR[?]), atomic force microscopy including the colloidal probe technique
