Measurement research
Through the Measurements Standards Laboratory (MSL[?]), New Zealand’s national metrology institute, IRL maintains and makes available the primary physical standards of measurement for the benefit of New Zealand. This includes collaborating with other national metrology institutes to make regular improvements to the SI system so we keep pace with our customers’ needs and new technologies.
Our research activities therefore span a wide range of activities:
- Difficult industrial measurements
- New measurement techniques and instruments
- New calibration methods
- New or improved measurement standards
- Fundamental measurements supporting improvements to the SI
You can find in-depth information on our above research on the dedicated website for IRL’s Measurement Standards Laboratory.
