Electric fence communication system

In a joint project with Auckland-based PEL Industries, Industrial Research developed new communications technology to help farmers perform remote control for farm automation through an electric fence network.

electric fence comms system

This is of particular value to farmers with extreme or modest length fences as it enables them to switch off and  repair an electric fence without having to first return to the power supply point.  It also enables remote control of any other farm automation systems connected to the network.

Fence-Net employs the communication capability of the fence itself and centres on signal transmission technology developed by Industrial Research. It allows a hand-held remote to reliably deliver an encrypted message over a long distance via the wire back to the system’s base station.

The technology works with polytape and polywire fences as well as conventional wire and works reliably on fence runs up to 25km long.
