Sonar system electronic architectures
Industrial Research Limited has developed sonar system electronic hardware that implement multiple channel transceivers and signal processing architectures using cost-effective electronics.
Novel transducer arrays.
Second and third generation systems have focussed on design flexibility while enhancing sonar performance and reducing hardware costs. This is achieved by designing typical architectures that allow software-defined performance adaptability, customised for a range of sonar applications such as flexible beam steering, wideband (chirp) and coded operation, modifiable centre frequency, bandwidth and channel count.
As an example, our third generation receiver structure delivers enhanced cost performance options through:
- bandpass-sampling down conversion
- multiplexed design minimising component count while maximising performance conformity.
- direct conversion to zero-IF (complex baseband)
- FPGA[?] implementation for maximum flexibility and considerably-reduced development time
- digital signal processing starting at the sampler
