First New Zealand 1Gbps wireless connect goes to IRL
FX Networks and Araneo Networks have recently commissioned a 1Gbps wireless customer access for Industrial Research Limited. It is believed to be the first of its type in production in NZ.
The link connects one of IRL’s offices to an FX-provided 1Gbps WAN service that leverages the FX North Island Fibre Optic Backbone.
Jamie Baddeley, General Manager ISP at FX says the technology provides a cost effective alternative form of access to their network.
“We work with many different access networks and access network operators, and we’ve been working with Araneo for a long time – so we had the confidence to get IRL connected in this innovative way”
Jon Brewer, Managing Director at Araneo Networks said that new ground has been broken in regulatory, technical, and commercial areas with this service.
“Since our first core network installations in 2006, Araneo remains the only New Zealand company to successfully license, operate, and market gigabit networks via millimeter wave radio. This new access circuit for FX finally brings gigabit wireless to the customer premises – faster, easier, and cheaper than urban fibre.”
“This is a fantastic step in the right direction for Industrial Research,” says Alastair James, Business Relationship Manager at IRL.
“It will provide our scientists with a faster network that will not only enable us to share information with other research institutions at home and abroad, but the increased bandwidth will also allow us to move past the digital age and into the world of VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol).”
