High Temperature Superconductors group
IRL and partners are developing HTS[?] technologies for the scientific, medical, industrial and power industries.

Magnetic levitation over a high temperature superconductor — a demonstration of the Meissner effect.
Milestones include the sale of the world’s longest second-generation HTS cables to Siemens. We are also actively involved in materials and manufacturing process improvements for second generation YBCO[?] wire with American Superconductor.
Our world-leading HTS programme supports HTS-110 Ltd, a spin-off company from Industrial Research, which designs and builds magnet products for scientific and industrial applications, including laboratory magnets and rotors and high speed generators.
IRL has a joint venture with General Cable (NZ) Ltd to develop, manufacture and sell HTS cable for magnets, transformers and rotating machines.
Recently cryogenic refrigeration technology has been developed and licensed to HTS-110. Development of the technology has been undertaken in partnership with Air Liquide.
