Chris Sutton
Chris Sutton’s promotion to Distinguished Scientist in 2008 recognises his considerable achievements in the field of metrology – the science of measurement.

Chris Sutton
He serves on national and international committees that oversee and ensure world-wide consistency in international measurements. He was also involved in the preparation of New Zealand’s Measurement Standards Act in 1992 which led to the establishment of MSL[?].
His own research has also contributed to scientific advances in the fields of pressure balances, mass and later, length measurement. This includes world-leading work on the performance of gas-operated pressure balances. This work led him to propose the use of twin pressure balances as the basis for a Watt balance experiment to measure the Planck Constant and ultimately provide a way to express a kilogram weight in terms of the Planck Constant.
